Think about the 5 steps to great characters

  • Strong Archetypes
  • Use Quirks to add flavor and uniqueness and develop a personality
  • Develop strong motivations think of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
  • Be able to visualize them in your head
  • Use story action to define the character

Let's build a protagonist

  • Background
    • Strong Archetypes
  • What motivates your character?
    • Basic Needs (physiological, Safety)
    • Psychological needs (Belonging, Esteem)
    • Self-Actualization
    • Why does your character think his motivation is?
  • What does your character look like?
    • What someone would notice when meeting them
    • The first time they meet (3 Things)
    • When they get to know them (Think back to the quirks)
    • Repeat until you can see them in your head
    • All senses not just vision
  • What is his personality
  • What causes him/her to stand his ground or run away
  • When will your character compromise?
  • What causes action or inaction
  • Traits
  • Flaws
  • Quirks
  • Name if you can
