Worldbuilding is an art, which I like to apply a process. I am trying to avoid one of the worst phrases in a fantasy world builder life, “That is so unrealistic.” Now the phrase is funny when applied to the magic system in any form of media. Or even more, comical, when a person is looking at a map of a world that they know doesn’t exist.
The better phrase would be, “This thingie does not make sense in your completely made up reality.” Either way, when it happens it will hurt. Now, when you make stuff up, there will always be people who do not like the way you do it. The trick is to have a reference sheet with all the basic core rules of your world. You can use it to check out new fantastic elements you apply to your world.
